Neolissochilus hexagonolepis (McClelland, 1839)

Genus: Neolissochilus Rainboth

Body deep anteriorly, eyes on upper half of the head, Lower lip present medially; post-labial groove interrupted in the middle. Barbels two pair; cheeks with numerous tubercles.

Synony ms: Barbus hexagonolepis McClelland, 1839; B. (lissocheilus) hexagonolepis Hora, 1940; Acrossocheilus hexagonolepis McClelland, 1839; Barbodes hexagonolepis McClelland, 1839.

Diagnosis: Dorsal fin rays 4/9, anal 3/5, pectoral 1/16. Body moderately elongated, lower labial fold widely interrupted in the middle; barbels two pairs, Scales large, 28-32 on the lateral line, sides of snout and cheeks studded with large tubercles.

Common names: Copper mahseer, chocolate mahseer, katle, shongnya

Altitude: 150 – 510 MASL

Conservation Status: Near threatened (IUCN), status in Bhutan not known
