Body elongated and compressed. Head very large. Mouth terminal, operculum large, deeper than long, its outer surface strongly ridged. Dorsal fin small, inserted slightly behind origin of pelvic fins.

Diagnosis: Dorsal fin rays 3/7; Anal 18. Body deep, mouth terminal and small. Body with silvery red spots.
