Genus: Chagunius Smith
Body elongated, moderately compressed, abdomen rounded. Mouth narrow and sub-terminal, lips fleshy; post labial groove incomplete, no demarcation between lower lip and jaw. Barbels two pairs, dorsal fin with 13 rays, last simple ray osseous and serrated.

Diagnosis: Dorsal fin rays 5/8, anal 3/5, pectoral 1/15. Body elongated, its depth slightly more than head length. Barbels two pairs; dorsal spine strong and serrated, scales small 44 -47 on lateral line. Tubercles on snout and cheeks
