Genus: Ctenopharyngodon Steindachner
Body elongated and sub cylindrical. Head compressed. Eyes large, often visible from underside of head. Dorsal fin short and inserted slightly ahead of pelvic fins. Dorsal spine smooth and weak. Lateral line complete. No barbels.
Synony ms: Leuciscus idella: Kottelat, 2006; Ctenopharyngodon Steindachner, 1866; C. laticeps Steindachner, 1866; Leuciscus idella Vealenciennes, 1844; L. tschiliensis Basilewsky, 1855.
Diagnosis: Dorsal fin rays 3/7; Anal 3/7-8, pectoral fin 1/17. Body stout and elongate. Dorsal and ventral profiles equally arched. Dorsal fin inserted slightly nearer to tip of the snout than to caudal fin base. Barbel absent.
